Collie Puppy for Sale

Prior to looking for a Collie puppy for sale, a responsible owner should learn much on the breed and on its keeping requirements. The Collie is well suited to living in the country or in the suburbs where it has a job to do or at least an opportunity to exercise much outdoors. Indoor living is not good for a large and active dog, but if the Collie has an opportunity to play in the yard and is exercised and trained daily, it can be allowed indoors. When restricted to the yard, a Collie puppy lacks communication and interaction with the family. Without daily communication with people, even a well-bred and high quality puppy cannot become a reliable family pet.

All devoted breeders screen perspective owners very carefully to make sure they are ready for responsible ownership. No serious breeder will offer a Collie puppy for sale to the wrong family, but backyard breeders and puppy mills don’t care about the well-being of their animals and never ask buyers about their lifestyle, dog ownership experience, and family members. Anyone can buy a Collie puppy from a puppy mill and then, if the dog becomes difficult to housetrain or control, surrender it to the rescue or shelter. Responsible breeders insist on returning their dogs back to the kennel, if the owner cannot keep them because of personal reasons or because of problematic behavior of the pet.

When planning on obtaining a Collie puppy for sale, keep in mind not its exercise needs alone, but also its grooming requirements. To look glossy and healthy, the long coat of the Collie needs regular brushing and bathing. These dogs are moderate shedders, but twice a year, they lose most of their coat. The eyes and ears of these dogs need regular check ups.

This breed in general is very healthy and hardy. The main concern with a Collie is hip dysplasia, which is a typical problem with most large dogs. Without enough exercise, dogs of this breed tend to put on weight, which is bad for their joints. Some bloodlines of the Collie are prone to eye problems. A Collie puppy for sale obtained from a responsible breeder is unlikely to develop hereditary disorders.
